Friday Favorites - April 7, 2017

If you are reading this early Friday morning, send some positive thoughts my way. Nothing to worry about, just a hopeful new adventure and positive energy is appreciated. (Promise to share if something occurs.)

Although there is more sunlight in a day, it is beginning to feel like time is flying by. We have a packed weekend of activities with going away parties for friends, Easter activities with James’ family and another fun event with friends on Sunday afternoon. Just another reminder to purposefully slow down and appreciate the now.

I find that I am now keeping a running list of my favorite things to share in this space. I feel it helps me to be more mindful of what I am doing. It may be a practice you begin in your own life whether you are a blogger or journal writer or simply an observer of everyday life.

Here are a few of my favorite things this week!

Starbucks Gluten Free Canadian Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich

A few weeks ago, Starbucks released the Canadian Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich. It is prepared in a gluten free environment and sealed for safety. At the store, it is warmed in its’ own parchment bag to avoid cross contamination. Finding warm sandwiches for breakfast that are gluten free is not easy and this sandwich is truly AMAZING! I can not eat bacon but it is easily removed from the sandwich. Even if you do not have to eat gluten free, it is worth trying.

ESPN’s 30 for 30 One Not Done

For those who are regular readers, you know I am from Kentucky and loving the University of Kentucky basketball team is a requirement. We love our team, the individual players and our Coach John Calipari. ESPN does regular documentaries on sports history and this is a first that they have done  while someone is still active in the sport. There was a preview of the episode in Lexington on Monday night. Word is that even the haters like this documentary. It aired originally Thursday night. I feel like this will be our Friday night date viewing.

Buy These Shooties

These shooties (yes, they are called that) from White House Black Market are simply INCREDIBLE!!!   A co worker referred to these as my kick-ass shoes and I do feel a little powerful in them. (This is a 4 inch heel but very sturdy). I’ve worn them with a dress and jeans.  Believe it or not, they are much more comfortable than some of the highly hyped booties from the fall. Right now they are on sale at WHBM for $94.50 and you will not be sorry you purchased them.

Thirty Years of Steel Magnolias

Steel Magnolias is one of my favorite movies and I believe every southern woman sees herself in one of the rles. Garden and Gun shares an in depth interview with the playwright who wrote the original script to keep his sister’s memory alive and tell the story of the women who supported his mother and sister. I have lost count of the times I have viewed the movie and can quote it but have not watched it since my Mom’s death. If you want a little peak into the relationship I had with my Mom, observe Shelby and M’Lynn.

When Social Media Makes You Feel Bad About Yourself

Christine from Simply Stine has become a favorite blogger to read and this post about social media came to me on a day that I needed it. I have chosen to not be a blogger that focuses too much upon the “perfect” shot on instagram or even in my blog posts, but it is hard to not do comparison when it comes to social media. I reguarly encourage my clients to stop social media and within a week they self report they are feeling better. Life is about learning to love who you are and accepting that you do not have to be a carbon copy of everyone else. Besides that fact, the truth is many of the “perfect” people that are admired are also struggling to maintain that image.
