21c Museum Hotel Lexington

Today I’m excited to share the continuation of my birthday weekend at 21c Museum Hotel Lexington after spending the first night at 21c Museum Hotel Louisville.

Lexington, Kentucky in my hometown and to say I was excited that 21c was building a hotel in my city is an understatement. Following the  hotel’s focus of revitalizing historic buildings to create boutique hotels, Lexington’s 21c is a 103 years old home to the former First National Bank. It is difficult to believe but at one time the 15 floor building was Lexington’s first skyscraper.

After spending the day in Louisville, we arrived in Lexington to prepare for dinner at Lockbox restaurant with James’ parents.21c Lexington has 88 rooms with 6-7 spacious rooms per floor each with a varying floor plan.

As with all 21c Hotels, everything is meant to be on display and is a piece of art. This can be seen from the front entrance light to the wall feature behind the front desk.

We were warmly greeted by the hotel staff and as I checked in they acknowledged we had been at the 21c Louisville hotel the night before. Check in was quick, easy and we were within our room in a short amount of time.

Many of the original architectural pieces of the building have been kept in place including mail shafts on each floor and the original Greek tile work in the hallways.

Each 21c Hotel has a fleet of penguins as part of the permanent installment throughout the hotel. These penguins travel throughout the hotel, overseeing the street, joining diners for dinner and occasionally welcome a guest to their room.

I was excited to be greeted by my own personal penguin in our deluxe corner room. Of course, photographs and drinks were in order. (Just as a note, said penguin did stay in the room with us Saturday night but did not come home with us.)

The deluxe corner room included a king bed, couch and table. It was bright with a wall of wrap around windows that had black out shades for night and plenty of room.

In addition to our penguin welcome, we also received a personal note. Each hotel does welcome guests but I personally loved the handwritten touch.

21c Museum Welcome

Our bathroom layout in Lexington was larger than the room the previous night. We had a fantastic walk in shower (with our own duck) and the counter had enough room for my makeup and styling tools on the counter.

As this was a corner room, we entered via a small hallway that contained the closet, mini bar and Nespresso Coffee Maker. Our main view was of Cheapside Park and the old Courthouse that is in the stages of being remodeled.

On multiple levels of the hotel, there are comfortable meeting spaces mixed in with the art.

This large open space is used weekly for yoga and barre classes. It is also a fantastic area for receptions and parties.

As I noted earlier, every element has an art feature and can easily be overlooked at first. These hanging light spheres in the Hotel’s restaurant Lockbox vary in color depending upon the next day’s weather.

The Ice Branch Chandelier hanging over this sitting area does not look like it at first glance but is made completely of crystals.

We enjoyed dinner Saturday night at Lockbox (more to come next week) and before returning to our room, enjoyed the night time view of the city.

21c Museum Hotel is a welcome addition to Lexington on many different levels. It’s wonderful to have a unique boutique hotel that provides a welcoming atmosphere and beautiful public and guest spaces. Our stay at 21c Lexington met the expectations of our previous visits in Louisville and Cincinnati and did not disappoint. It was a perfect way to celebrate a birthday!

Please make plans to return next week to discover the fantastic foods we had at Proof on Main in Louisville and Lockbox in Lexington.
