I have A Lot of things to do.
How many times have you said this in the past month, week or day? Are you looking at the week ahead and feeling unbalanced and questioning how you will get everything done?
As I write this post, my table is full of information on practicing self care for an upcoming training this week. There is not a magic formula in regards to finding balance. Balance is something that is not static and changes every day. Our priorities vary depending upon deadlines, needs and (sometimes) desires. For instance, rather than completing my presentation, I am writing this post.
It appears that we live in a society that bases self worth on how busy, successful and productive one is. Everyone is busy. As much as there is a push in regards to finding the elusive balance, there is rarely a time when someone proudly states “I sat on my couch all weekend.” Busy is better. Busy means you are accomplishing something. However, busy is not always productive.
Ask yourself if your life is well balanced or well decided?
Daily you make the decision of where your energy is going to go.
Well balanced lives are typically the ones where the individual has sat down and looked at the week or month ahead. There will be weeks when there is not enough time for everything and everyone. As a result, something will need to have less focus. A friend and I have been meeting at 6:30 on the weekends to walk but there have been times when we have both decided we needed one day in our weeks to not wake up to alarms. The workout and socialization are important to both of us but we equally need sleep..
Today I encourage you to take a look at your life. Where is your energy going? Are tasks and individuals taking more of your time than they should? Do you need to say no to something or someone? If you need help viewing all of the place your energy goes in life, take some time to complete a balance wheel.
How have you decided to balance your life this week?
